VAULX-EN-VELIN: 200,000 EUROS OF STOLEN CONSTRUCTION EQUIPMENT RECOVERED THANKS TO A GPS TRACKER

The machines were found thanks to a device installed on one of them by the company Coyote, which deplores an increase in thefts of construction machinery.

Several construction machinery stolen in the Rhône was found in less than 24 hours, the driving assistance company Coyote said in a press release. A theft of machinery from a rental company was reported to the police on Monday, April 22.

A device from the Coyote Secure system, installed on the machine, made it possible to determine a search area for it in the Vaulx-en-Velin sector. A "detective", an employee of the Coyote company, then carried out an initial reconnaissance on the ground and "quickly located the dry zone of the stolen machine on private land in the municipality, thanks to specific tools that allow the signal emitted by the tracer to be traced".

Thefts of vehicles on the rise

The police were notified and carried out an operation the day after the reported theft. On site, they found the machine in question as well as four other machines, all reported stolen, as well as a note. The total amount is estimated at nearly 200,000 euros.

The Coyote company deplores a "loss rate" for construction machinery up 13% compared to the previous year, i.e. 29 machines stolen on average for 1,000 machines equipped with their Coyote Secure device.

The company assures that these thefts are "a serious concern" for construction companies, and points to "very well-organized criminal networks" behind these thefts, especially since the majority of the equipment stolen over the past year was in secure locations.
